1. Does the City have an ordinance that restricts overnight parking of vehicles on City streets?

In general, the San Gabriel Municipal Code (S.G.M.C. 72.034) prohibits the stopping, standing or parking of a vehicle at all times, and between the hours of 2:00 AM and 6:00 AM, except when necessary to stop a vehicle to avoid conflict with other traffic or in compliance with the directions of a police officer or official traffic control device.

However, exceptions to the code permit non-commercial passenger vehicles, vans or pickup trucks displaying an official city parking pass to park on any public street in the city, except Valley Boulevard, Las Tunas Drive and that portion of San Gabriel Boulevard between Las Tunas Drive and the Interstate 10 interchange between the hours of 2:00 AM and 6:00 AM.

2. How do I get a 12 month, 6 month or temporary overnight parking permit?

You will need to complete an application form, available on our website or at City Hall, listing your name, address, phone number and reason for needing the permit to get a parking permit. If you live in an apartment, the landlord or manager must indicate the number of parking spaces assigned to your unit and sign the application. You must also list all of the vehicles at the household, regardless of how many permits you want. Please email application and registration for all vehicles to annualparkingpermit@sgch.org. Once reviewed and approved you will be contacted for an appointment. Appointments are required to purchase.

Note:

• You must provide the current DMV registrations for all of the vehicles.
• No permits will be issued for oversized vans, commercial vehicles, or any vehicles with advertising or work equipment on them.

If you would like a one-year permit ($129) or six month permit ($108) all of the registrations must have the current San Gabriel address printed on them. Temporary overnight permits ($4.00 per night) purchased from either of the two machines in town (in front of the police station at 625 S. Del Mar Ave. or in front of the Community Services Building, 250 S. Mission Dr., or online at www.paymycite.com) may be registered at any address.

Temporary overnight parking permits can be purchased in person, 24 hours a day, at vending machines located in front of the Police Department at 625 S. Del Mar Avenue or in front of the Parks and Recreation Building at 250 S. Mission Drive or online for $4.00 per night.

Note, when requesting a temporary parking permit:

• A .50 cent convenience fee will be added to each on-line transaction.
• No more than seven nights can be purchased at a time.

3. How do I contest a parking citation I received?

Parking citations can be contested online, by mail, or in person at the San Gabriel Police Department from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. or 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., 7 days a week.

To contest a citation, the first request must be made within 21 calendar days of receiving the citation OR within 14 calendar days of receiving the delinquent notice. Please note that the request must be made for an INITIAL REVIEW before a request for an ADMINISTRATIVE HEARING. The request for the ADMINISTRATIVE HEARING must be made within 21 days of the results from the INITIAL REVIEW. No money is required to request an INITIAL REVIEW, but all fees due from the Citation must be paid before an ADMINISTRATIVE HEARING date is provided.

4. I lost my traffic citation, what do I do?

There are two ways to handle this issue:
1. If you need to appear in court, you can call the San Gabriel Police Department at (626) 308-2828 and ask to speak to a Records Specialist. They will assist you in getting the citation number, court date, and violation to assist you in court.
2. If you need a copy of a citation, you can visit to the San Gabriel Police Department (625 South Del Mar Avenue, San Gabriel) and request a copy of the citation. San Gabriel Police Records Bureau hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 5:00 pm.

5. Where can I pay or contest a parking ticket?
