If I have a building that does not comply with today's zoning standards on my property, can I rebuild the building if it has been damaged or destroyed?
Yes, the City's Municipal Code says that such "legal nonconforming" buildings can be completely rebuilt if involuntarily destroyed, such as by fire or earthquake. The new building would have to placed in exactly the same location as the old building and can be no larger than the original.
