This past Monday, the San Gabriel Fire Department held a ceremony commemorating the victims of the September 11 attacks in 2001. A yearly tradition at Station 51, this year’s ceremony featured members of the fire department and police department along with a moving bagpipe salute by SGFD’s own Jim Miller. Residents and city officials were also on hand to pay their respects in the early morning ceremony.
To honor the fallen police and firefighters who lost their lives on September 11, members of the SGFD decorated the station’s front lawn with tiny American flags surrounding the station’s September 11 memorial. Members of the department also commenced the raising and lowering of the American flag along with a moment of silence and the ringing of the final bells to mark the moment.
“I’ve been living here for ten years, and I wanted to come out to meet the fire department, friends and colleagues,” Patricia Foltyn, a community resident, said. “We can’t forget about what happened. We learn from it and move forward.”
We've included photos from this year's ceremony below.
