With the city experiencing an increase in construction in recent months, here’s an update on some of the major projects currently taking place:

ACE haul routes

• With the San Gabriel trench project wrapping up construction, work on rehabilitating the ACE haul routes is nearing completion
• Work on Agostino Road, Del Mar Avenue, Grand Avenue, Main Street, Santa Fe Avenue and Mission Road is nearly complete, with construction crews working on wrapping up utility adjustments and striping
• Work on San Gabriel Boulevard between Valley Boulevard and Mission Road is also complete, with work continuing south of Valley Boulevard
• Work is also slated to begin shortly north of Mission Road
• Construction on these routes is partially funded by the ACE project. Because activity along the ACE haul routes accelerated the deterioration of these roadways, the city partnered with ACE to reconstruct and rehabilitate these roads once the bulk of the work on the trench project was complete

A look at San Gabriel Boulevard 

 Del Mar Avenue

• Work on phase three of the Del Mar Avenue pavement project is nearly complete. The City Council awarded the construction contract in April, and work began later in June. The project involves the reconstruction of the existing pavement, with construction crews installing new curb ramps along the street. In addition, crews are also restriping the roadway to include new bike lanes
• Pavement work was completed in early August, and striping is expected to be completed later this month

A look at Del Mar Avenue 

San Gabriel Boulevard/Mission Road intersection improvements

• Among one of the busier intersections in the city, work is currently being done to improve the streets and the sidewalks surrounding the San Gabriel Boulevard and Mission Road intersection
  • When finished, a new right turn lane from Mission Road to San Gabriel Boulevard will be completed. In addition, new traffic signals and drainage facilities among other improvements will also be added to the intersection
  • As it stands, utility companies are currently working to relocate their facilities to accommodate the changes
  • Pavement work on the south and west legs of the intersection has concluded, and the project is expected to be completed in October 2017

Great Streets program

While these projects are currently underway, there are also several new road rehabilitation projects that have now entered their design phase as part of Public Works’ Great Streets pavement rehabilitation program. Composed of two phases, these streets currently in design include:

Phase 1:

• San Marino Avenue from Longden to Las Tunas
• Warner Lane from San Marino to the west end
• Oak Lane from San Marino to the west end
• Broadway from Mission Drive to Junipero Serra
• Alanmay Avenue from Broadway to Live Oak
• Cresta Avenue from Las Tunas to Hermosa
• Earle Street from Las Tunas to Elm

Phase 2:

• Bilton Way from Fairway to Orange
• Orange Street from Del Mar to Montecito
• Santa Anita Street from Mission Road to Mission Drive
• Arroyo Drive from Santa Anita to Mays Alley
• Camelita Drive from San Marcos to Mission Drive
• San Marcos Street from Santa Anita Street to Mays Alley
• Alley west of City Hall from Santa Anita Street to McGroaty

In addition to the Great Streets program, these projects are also undergoing their design phase:

• Design is underway on Del Mar Avenue from Bencamp Street to Chestnut Avenue. The project will repave the street along with the replacement and upgrade of the sanitary sewers beneath the street. Design for this project will be complete by the end of the year, and construction is expected to start in early 2018
• The Alhambra Wash bridge replacement project is also in its design phase. Funded primarily by the federal bridge replacement program, the Alhambra project is being designed by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works. At the moment, the county is currently analyzing bids to determine the lowest responsive bidder, with a construction contract expected to be approved in October. Construction will begin in early 2018, with a completion date of 2020

The Alhambra Wash bridge 

• Design for the Broadway/Walnut Grove Intersection improvement project is complete, though right-of-way appraisals and negotiations have taken longer than anticipated. A portion of the utility relocations has been finished, and construction is anticipated to begin in 2018
