Bulky item dumping has become a significant issue in San Gabriel, with many people discarding their old couches, TVs, mattresses and even toilets in the right of way.
To combat this problem and educate the public on how to easily keep the city looking neat and clean, the city launched a video campaign urging community members to #DontTrashSG and keep their bulky items off the streets. The city released the video in English, Spanish and Chinese, posted across all social media platforms.
Dumping bulky items not only looks bad, but it's illegal. The problem is easy to fix, as the city's trash collector Athens Services will pick up bulky items for free. All residents have to do is call the service 24-hours in advance to schedule a pick up by calling 888.336.6100.
The city's Neighborhood Improvement Services (NIS) Division is making a greater effort to deter illegal dumping, and is also asking residents to call and report anyone who is putting their bulky items on the street without calling Athens for a pick-up.
To report illegal dumping or for more information on bulky items, call NIS at 626.308.2806.
