San Gabriel Police Department personnel might look a little scruffier than normal this month, but it's for a good cause.
The department is participating in "No Shave November" to raise funds and awareness for men's health issues. The men will grow out their facial hair throughout the month and women will wear a flower or bow in their hair. The idea is to raise awareness and start a conversation about men's health, to encourage a healthy lifestyle and to aid those fighting the battle with cancer.
In addition, each participant will donate $25, which will go toward a men's health charity. Members of the public are encouraged to participate as well, and can make a donation at the Police Department, 625 S Del Mar Ave.
Police officers always have a plan, and officers encourage everyone to have a plan to detect the early stages of serious diseases impacting men today such as prostate cancer. Learn more about the early signs at www.cancer.org.
