The City of San Gabriel is seeking nominations for the Bell Awards, a biennial program that recognizes outstanding design on projects built in the city.
The Bell Awards, named after the iconic bells that adorn the San Gabriel Mission, were established to honor local projects that have improved the city’s economic and cultural vitality. The program seeks to recognize exceptional building design that promotes and improves the unique character of San Gabriel’s residential and commercial neighborhoods.
In addition, the Martin E. Weil Award recognizes individuals or organizations whose contributions demonstrate excellence in historic preservation and conservation. Projects are evaluated based on design principles laid out in the city’s design guidelines, and are judged by a panel of individuals not employed by the City of San Gabriel.
This is the sixth year the city has put on the Bell Awards. Nominations can be submitted by anyone in the community, and are due by Sept. 23 to the Community Development Department. To submit a project for consideration, fill out a nomination form and return it by email to nbezanson@sgch.org or bring it to City Hall, 425 S Mission Drive.
