After an extensive and rigorous search, we are pleased to announce the selection of Edward Elizalde to serve as the city’s new Police Chief, effective September 5, 2023.
With 28 years of law enforcement experience and a proven record of community engagement, personnel development and strategic budget management, Elizalde joins the San Gabriel Police Department as a seasoned professional. Elizalde began as a public safety dispatcher in the City of Alhambra and rose through the ranks to become its assistant police chief, overseeing patrol teams, personnel training, investigations, dispatch and the police department’s budget and capital improvement projects. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in organizational leadership, is a graduate of Claremont Graduate University’s Peter F. Druker School of Management and holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from California State University, Los Angeles.
As Police Chief, Elizalde will be responsible for overseeing the San Gabriel Police Department's operations, implementing innovative strategies to enhance public safety, and leading the department's efforts to maintain a safe and secure environment for all residents, businesses and visitors.
Elizalde will be sworn in during the September 5 City Council Meeting. Community members will also have an opportunity to meet Chief Elizalde in an informal and open setting during this month's "411 with the Chief" event, scheduled to take place on Tuesday, September 12, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers.
