A large fire broke out at a mixed-use construction site located at 300 E Valley Blvd on the early morning of Sunday, June 11, 2023. The San Gabriel Fire Department's (SGFD) Engine 51 arrived on the scene in 1.5 minutes after it was first reported around 3:28 a.m. Upon seeing that the flames had engulfed the entire building and were over 40 feet tall, SGFD immediately requested extra resources and manpower.
More than 90 firefighters from SGFD, Alhambra, Monterey Park, Montebello, San Marino, Arcadia, Pasadena, Glendale, and LA County Fire Department ultimately fought the fire. We would like to thank our neighbors who pitched in and helped contain the fire.
Two nearby buildings were evacuated as a precaution; fortunately, no injuries were reported, and no other buildings caught on fire. The evacuees were able to return home the same day. Power has been restored to the affected neighborhoods, and Athens Services has been conducting street sweeping to clear debris off the roads.
Investigators who are California State Fire Marshall certified and part of the Verdugo Arson Task Force are working diligently to determine the exact cause of the fire.
We will provide more updates to the community as soon as additional information becomes available.
Road Closure Update:
Valley Blvd remains closed between Palm Ave and Euclid Ave for debris removal. Please use an alternate route if possible and give yourself extra time to get to your destination.
We anticipate more streets to reopen in the coming days and will provide updates as they become available. We appreciate your patience as we continue our clean-up operations and investigate the cause of the fire.
