San Gabriel’s Search for a New Police Chief to Begin in March

Police Dept

The City of San Gabriel will begin its search for a new police chief this March and will be looking for an experienced public safety leader who has a community-oriented mindset.

As the city seeks the most qualified candidate, the search will take the form of open recruitment and will be promoted on the city’s website and social media channels as well as San Gabriel Police Department’s Facebook and Instagram.

All external and internal candidates interested in the position are invited to apply on the city’s website once announced at SanGabrielCity.com/Jobs.

The city anticipates San Gabriel’s new Chief of Police to be hired around July 2023 after a months-long recruitment process.

After more than six years with the San Gabriel Police Department, Police Chief Gene Harris departed San Gabriel in January 2023. Captain Riki Nakamura has been named the Interim Police Chief in the meantime.
