[ARCHIVED] September is National Preparedness Month

Emergency Preparedness Month

National Preparedness Month is observed each September to raise awareness about the importance of preparing for disasters and emergencies that could happen at any time. It's a good reminder that natural and man-made disasters can strike at any time. It's important to have a planned response when you're at work, on vacation or on the road. Homeowners, families, communities, and businesses can use this opportunity to find ways or help others understand more about preparing for disasters and reducing risks to health and the environment. A disaster plan will help with safety, security, and comfort. Regardless of the type of disaster, there are things you can do to prepare.

Emergency Supplies Kit

Disasters can happen anywhere and at any time. By taking the time to create an emergency supplies kit, your family will be prepared in the event of a disaster. The kit also helps children feel more secure knowing it is there in case of an emergency. The supplies can be kept in a plastic tub, small suitcase, trash can, backpack or other containers. Escape Planning

Plan Ahead! If a fire breaks out in your home, you may have only a few minutes to get out safely once the smoke alarm sounds. Everyone needs to know what to do and where to go if there is a fire. Get more safety tips here

Generator Safety

Downed utility lines, power company blackouts, or summer storms can all lead to power outages. Many people turn to a portable generator for a temporary solution without knowing the risks. Learn more

Emergency Notifications through Alert San Gabriel

Alert San Gabriel is an emergency communications system operated by the City of San Gabriel that will keep you informed during an emergency or critical incident. A collaborative effort between the San Gabriel Police Department, the San Gabriel Fire Department, and the City’s Public Information Office, Alert San Gabriel will send alerts and notifications during significant weather events, road closures, public health situations, and police and fire developments that impact the community. Alert San Gabriel will also serve as a way for residents to learn about important City developments that occur during critical incidents.
