In a 4-0 vote with Mayor Pu absent from the vote, the City Council approved a new joint-use agreement that includes language for both the City and San Gabriel Unified School District.
For some context, Gabrielino High School has been utilizing Smith Park Pool since 1998 for swim team practices and meets. As part of a long-standing arrangement, SGUSD has paid the City a percentage of utility costs as well as the hourly lifeguard rate.
In April 2017, the City Council approved a facilities joint use agreement with San Gabriel Unified School District with a single agreement that covers District facilities. This agreement, however, did not cover City facilities. As a result, City staff proposed an amended and restated facilities joint use agreement that includes language for both City and District facilities.
The amended agreement maintains the same format as the original joint use agreement with additional information that includes include City property, the use of City property, the maintenance of the facilities and the addition of City property as part of the indemnification.
