The City of San Gabriel has announced that Community Development Director Arminé Chaparyan has been appointed as the City’s Assistant City Manager, reporting to City Manager Mark Lazzaretto. In her new position, Chaparyan will oversee several special projects and will also serve as Acting City Manager in the City Manager’s absence.
As Assistant City Manager/Community Development Director, Chaparyan will continue to oversee the Community Development Department in addition to her new responsibilities, which includes the City’s Building & Safety/Neighborhood Improvement Services, Economic Development and Planning divisions.
Since joining the City in 2014, Chaparyan has overseen several key economic development initiatives and established a new community development team. Prior to coming to the City of San Gabriel, Chaparyan served as the Housing & Community Preservation Manager and Interim City Clerk for the City of Santa Clarita. In addition, Chaparyan has also worked at the City of Ontario’s Housing & Neighborhood Revitalization Agency, the City of West Covina and the State of California.
Chaparyan holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a Master in Public Administration from the University of Southern California. She has recently joined the California State University, Northridge Urban Studies program as an adjunct professor in the graduate program teaching a seminar on Planning/Economic Development. She is happily married with three children and enjoys being a dance mom and singing along to nursery rhymes.
