[ARCHIVED] City Council approves new annual budget

Statement regarding Councilmember Chin Ho Liao

In a unanimous vote, the City Council approved the City’s next annual budget. The adopted budget will attempt to maintain a reserve of approximately $3.3 million alongside an overall spending plan of approximately $56.4 million. The bulk of the adopted budget maintains a status quo from the last adopted budget, though the City will be adding a full-time position to Community Development’s Economic Development division.

City Council defers action on Marshall Park substation

After evaluating the San Gabriel Police Department’s proposal for a new substation at Marshall Park, the City Council agreed to defer action on this item pending a reassessment of the station’s placement and cancellation terms. Specifically, several members of the City Council expressed concerns about the district’s 60-day termination notice, the level of investment required by the City and the substation’s location with respect to traffic and parking.

City Council approves amendment with Civiltec Engineering for San Gabriel Boulevard sewer rehabilitation

In a unanimous vote, the City Council also approved an agreement with Civiltec Engienering to provide engineering work for the sewer underneath San Gabriel Boulevard. In 2009, the City’s Sewer Master Plan identified $30 million in needed capacity upgrades and structural repairs. As part of the study, the plan identified the need to increase the flow capacity of the sewer line underneath San Gabriel Boulevard between Angeleno Avenue and the San Bernardino Freeway.

With the approval of the amendment, Civiltec Engineering will provide all plans, specifications and documents for construction. The agreement also provides an engineer’s estimate for project construction costs and engineering support during the bidding process and construction phase.

The estimated cost for the additional services will not exceed $137,929.00 for a total agreement cost of $189,601.30. Public Works is recommending that the City Council approve the amendment with Civiltec Engineering.
