On January 20, the City of San Gabriel officially opened Marshall Park, the city’s first new park in nearly two decades.

Located on the former site of John Marshall Elementary School, Marshall Park is the city’s first park located on the south side of the city. Just over 2 acres in size, the park provides a host of amenities for residents, including an illuminated basketball court, playground, outdoor fitness equipment, two picnic shelters and public restrooms. As part of the project, the city also reconstructed the sidewalks around Marshall Park, adding new lighting fixtures and landscaping to help enhance the park experience. Finally, the opening of Marshall Park marks a 10% increase to the city’s total open space.

To celebrate the opening of Marshall Park, the city held an opening ceremony with Mayor Juli Costanzo and members of the City Council, representatives from the Garvey School District along with state and county representatives. Following some brief remarks, the San Gabriel City Council, Interim City Manager Chaparyan and other officials participated in a ceremonial hoop shoot to open the park.

Following the ceremonial hoop shoot, hot dogs, chips, drinks and cake were served to the park’s first guests.
