Throughout the week, members of the San Gabriel Police Department will be visiting local schools to spread awareness about Red Ribbon Week. Created in response to the murder of Drug Enforcement Administration agent Enrique Camarena, Red Ribbon Week raises awareness about the dangers associated with illegal drugs, and the importance of being drug free.
During the campaign, members of the police department and the School/Community Engagement Team will be hosting assemblies at local schools to encourage students to participate in drug prevention activities. Officer Paul Puente and his K9 Bentley are also making special appearances as part of this week’s campaign, allowing some of San Gabriel’s youngest residences to meet the department’s new K9 unit.
