La Laguna de San Gabriel has been named as one of nine of America’s Coolest Playgrounds by Yahoo!  Located in Vincent Lugo Park, La Laguna is home to 14 concrete play structures crafted by Mexican artist Benjamin Dominguez.  The sand-filled lagoon includes Minnie the whale, Stella the starfish, Ozzie the octopus, and Flipper, Speedy and Peanut, three colorful dolphins.

In 2006, Friends of La Laguna (FoLL) formed to work toward the preservation of the structures.  Since, the playground was nominated to the California Register of Historic Places and was designated as a local landmark for the City of San Gabriel.
