Guest Speakers
The HEAR Commission invites one organization each month to present on topics or resources that are of benefit to the public and align with the purpose of the commission. The purpose of the commission is to advance and advocate for equity, access, diversity, social justice, safety, mutual appreciation, increased cultural competency, positive inter-group relations and respect for all members of the San Gabriel community. August 26, 2021- Dani Anderson- Ms. Anderson served as the Government Relations Manager for Southern California Edison as well as a member of the California State Independent Living Council. Her presentation educated listeners on disability pride and culture, the Independent Living Movement and improving communication between individuals with and without disabilities including attitudinal barriers and language use. September 28, 2021- Making Housing and Community Happen- Bert Newton, Liaison and Outreach Coordinator explained the push for rezoning religious land for affordable housing.
