CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
All candidates must be 18 years of age, a Citizen of the United States, and a registered voter residing within the city limits at the time nomination papers are issued.
NOMINATION PERIOD
Opens: Tuesday, November 13, 2012 (to account for Veterans’ Day, observed on
Nov. 12th)
Closes: Friday, December 7, 2012 If, and only if, an incumbent does not file, the
period is extended to Wednesday, December 12, 2012
NOMINATION PAPERS AND / OR CANDIDATES’ HANDBOOKS:
Nomination papers and/or candidates’ handbooks will be available beginning on Tuesday, November 13, 2012. “Pulling” nomination papers takes approximately 30-45 minutes.
To ensure that we have enough time to meet with you and discuss the process, please make an appointment with the City Clerk’s Office at (626) 308-2816.
The City Clerk’s Office is open Monday through Friday 8am-5pm, and Tuesday 8am-6:30pm.
COST
There is no cost to be issued nomination papers, receive a Candidate’s Handbook (provided free to all persons considering candidacy), or file nomination papers.
If a candidate chooses to submit a candidate’s statement, there is a fee of approximately $3,000 to cover the printing, legally-required translations, and distribution of the sample ballots containing the statement.
VOTE-BY-MAIL PERIOD
By law, Vote-by-Mail ballots cannot be mailed out earlier than Monday, February 4, 2013. All voted ballots should be returned to our office by February 26, 2013. Ballots received after that will be tabulated in the Official Canvass.

COUNCIL MEETINGS
Regular City Council meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7:30pm. Special and/or Adjourned City Council meetings may be held as needed.
MAYOR
The Mayor is appointed every year on a rotational basis by the City Council.
SALARIES
Mayor and Council Members: $893.70 monthly
City Clerk: $250.00 monthly
City Treasurer: $150.00 monthly
REGISTERED VOTERS
San Gabriel has 15,639 Registered Voters as of July 27, 2012, according to the County Registrar of Voters.
The last day to register to vote in this election is Tuesday, February 19, 2013 (to account for Presidents’ Day, observed on Feb. 18th).
