BOB BUSTOS: Public Works Manager
Prior to Bob’s employment with the City, he worked as a Licensed Concrete Contractor. He obtained his contractor’s license in 1978 and remained in the business for 15 years. Bob began his employment with the City on November 1, 1993 in the Public Works Division, as a Leadworker with the concrete crew. In 1996, he was promoted to the position of Street Foreman. Following the retirement of the former Public Works Superintendent, Bob was promoted to the Superintendent position in 1999.

Bob is an active member of various professional organizations that deal with particular Public Works issues: APWA, IMSA, TCSA, and MSA.

Bob lives in West Covina, and is a family man with a 31 year old married son and a 15 year old daughter. Bob is especially proud of his 34 years of marriage to his lovely wife, Becky. His joys in life are his family and close friends and his fondness for the game of golf.

GERRY LOPEZ: Street Supervisor

Gerry is part of the management team at the City Yard. He is in charge of assigning work to the Public Works crews on a daily basis, responds to concerns from the public, and responds to service requests from other departments as they come in.

Gerry began his employment with the City on November 7, 2005 in the Public Works Division. He comes to San Gabriel with 11 years of Public Works experience from the City of El Monte. While employed Gerry received an Associate of Science Degree in Public Works from Citris College and also received a Bachelors of Science Degree in Public Administration from the University of La Verne in 2005.

Gerry grew up in El Monte and now resides in Covina with his wife and their only son. Gerry enjoys playing softball and spending time with his family. His hobbies include playing chess and participating in Baseball and Football fantasy leagues.

JEREMY SCHMIDT: Auto Shop Supervisor

Jeremy Schmidt is the second of three generations to have been born in the City of San Gabriel, his mom being first and son being third. His mother lived on Woodlawn Ave when San Gabriel was mostly orange groves. Jeremy grew up in Alhambra and Arcadia, graduating from Monrovia High School. While in high school, Jeremy enlisted in the US Army Reserve, attending basic training before graduating in 1991. 

He then went to Ordnance School at Aberdeen Proving Grounds Maryland, graduating as a Quartermaster, Chemical Equipment Mechanic. He completed his Reserve enlistment of siz years and was Honorably Discharged after serving both with 489th Maintenance Company, San Bernardino, CA and the 396th Combat Support Hospital in Fort Vancouver, Washington.

In 1992, Jeremy enrolled at Pasadena City College in Automotive Technology, completing the program in 1995 while working full time at Butler and Wright Auto Parts in Pasadena and in the Army Reserve. After time in Oregon, Jeremy returned to California, working first for Johnson Controls, then for the City of Glendale Public Works.  In January 2006, Jeremy was hired as an Equipment Maintenance Supervisor with LA County MTA and worked with public transit vehicles for 18 months and now hopes he has found a home with the City of San Gabriel as Automotive Shop Supervisor.

Jeremy is currently attending Glendale City College and working toward a degree in business administration. His family includes his wife Maria of 11 years and son John, who completed the LA Marathon this year in 6 hours with his school running team. Jeremy’s interests include traveling, camping, hiking and volcanoes (which he loves to combine when possible). He loves just about any outdoor activity. Both Jeremy and his son are Los Angeles Kings hockey fans.
