The shelter can help you find a pet or find spay and neuter clinics. The SGVHS was founded by San Gabriel resident Fannie Thompson Kessler in 1924. Volunteers are welcome.

Wild Animal Sightings


The Police Department will record and respond to wild animal sightings and other concerns with any animal problem. The City of San Gabriel also contracts with the San Gabriel Humane Society to handle matters of animal pick-up and to assist the Police Department when requested. Canine Distemper


The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has determined that several local raccoons have been infected with the Canine Distemper virus.  This disease is highly contagious to dogs and puppies, and is often fatal. The good news is that Distemper is preventable in dogs and puppies with a simple vaccination at your local veterinarians, or at San Gabriel Valley Humane Society (clinic hours are Tuesday - Saturday, 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM).  More information about Canine Distemper can be found here
