City Treasurer - One (1) seat
TERM OF OFFICE
Four-year terms - Beginning March 2017 and ending March 2021
All candidates must be 18 years of age, a Citizen of the United States, and a registered voter residing within the city limits at the time nomination papers are issued.
NOMINATION PERIOD Opens: Monday, November 14, 2016 Closes: Friday, December 9, 2016, unless an incumbent does not file, then the period is extended to Wednesday, December 14, 2016.
NOMINATION PAPERS AND/OR CANDIDATES’ HANDBOOKS:
If you are interested in running for City Council, City Clerk, or City Treasurer, please contact the City Clerk’s Department at (626) 308-2816 to schedule an appointment to receive your nomination papers and review all the required deadlines for becoming an official candidate on the March 7, 2017 ballot. Appointments for pulling nomination papers takes approximately 30-45 minutes.
The City Clerk’s Department is open Monday through Friday 8am-5pm, and Tuesday 8am-6:30pm.
There is no cost to be issued nomination papers, receive a Candidate’s Handbook (provided free to all persons considering candidacy), or file nomination papers.
A candidate may choose to submit a candidate’s statement, there is a fee of approximately $3,000 to cover the printing, legally-required translations, and distribution of the sample ballots containing the statement.
By law, Vote-by-Mail ballots cannot be mailed out earlier than Monday, February 6, 2017. All voted ballots should be returned to our office by February 21, 2017. Ballots received after that will be tabulated in the Official Canvass.
CAMPAIGN REPORTING REQUIREMENTS
Prior to raising or spending any funds for your campaign you must file a Candidate Intention Statement (Form 501) with the San Gabriel City Clerk’s Department. Within 10 days of receiving $1000 or more in campaign contributions, you must file a Statement of Organization (Form 410). This form must be filed with the Secretary of State and a copy must be filed with the San Gabriel City Clerk’s Department. The Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) provides free, expert advice: (866) ASK-FPPC (275-3772) OR you may go to their website at: FPPC OR email them at: Advice@fppc.ca.gov. All campaign forms and most manuals and instructions are available on the FPPC website.
Regular City Council meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7:30pm. Special and/or Adjourned City Council meetings may be held as needed.
The Mayor is appointed every year on a rotational basis by the City Council.

San Gabriel has 15,461 Registered Voters as of May 23, 2016, according to the County Registrar of Voters. The last day to register to vote in this election is Monday, February 20, 2017.
